In summertime Paris, the pop-up terraces abound, each with their own style and charm. Open until early September is Gypsy, the new ephemeral terrace of the Cirque d'Hiver, to the delight of lovers of bohemian chic and fans of places with a soul. DJs and musicians play live in this bar-restaurant nestled in the 11th arrondissement. It’s a must this summer!
Gypsy; a newcomer to the Parisian terrace scene
Gypsy is the new terrace of the Cirque d'Hiver where the famous Bouglione circus family and their troupe perform. The name of this pop-up guinguette, which has taken up residence adjacent to the famous Parisian landmark, is a tip of the hat to the gypsy origins of the Bougliones. It’s a place of relaxation and celebration with a boho-chic atmosphere and a décor of warm tones. Colourful carpets, cushions and curtains, hanging lamps, red velvet banquettes evoking those of the legendary Cirque d'Hiver auditorium, oriental poufs and rattan armchairs decorate this beautiful place along with tropical plants. It pushes against the rooftop trend, as it’s at ground level, but guarantees a change of scenery and casts a beguiling gypsy spell.
A haven of peace and inspired charm
Amidst this casual-chic gypsy-inspired ambiance, entertainment and folklore are provided by ‘gypsy’ workshops, a guitar trio playing live music, DJ sets and fortune-tellers. Gypsy is ‘the Place To Be’ for evenings of aperitifs or cocktails with friends or colleagues.
Open until the end of September, Gypsy offers an excellent food & drink menu all summer long, either outdoors or within the atmospheric confines of its magnificent gypsy caravan, an authentic bohemian dwelling dating back to 1952. Transformed into a cosy bistro by the carefully designed decor, it reveals its origins in every nook and cranny as well as in the beautifully framed sepia photos lining the walls. It’s like a museum paying homage to the Bouglione family.
